The government and many emergency preparedness organizations suggest that every family should have at least a three day supply. Others suggest a supply that could last much longer. Some have food storage stockpiles that could sustain their families for years. Again, the decision about how much to store is up to each family.
Here are some things to consider.
Calories Need – You want to be sure that your food storage will provide the needed amount of calories. Keep in mind that in some survival situations, you may need a higher caloric intake.
You do not have to decide how large to make your food storage stockpile when you first begin. Just start by gathering enough for the recommended three days. From there you can begin to expand the stockpile to include enough items to last for a couple of weeks and then a couple of months.
You can stop at any time that you feel you have enough of a stockpile to feel secure.
